The gold is remarkably well preserved, with only a small amount of normal wear. There are a few kiln lines, tight, stable, hidden away; not noticed on display and normal/expected for these huge bisque figures that were not hollowed out. Tiny chips to base bottoms, mostly in the back.
Missing some of the beading on his stockings. A prior owner glued wood into the bottom of the bases in order to use these as lamps. There is museum quality invisible repair to tip of shoe, mask and one finger which I had done many years ago. The mask is a separate piece that fits snugly into his hand and is usually missing from this pair, so it is nice to find it here intact.Gorgeous and ready for display. Wonderful to either side of a mirror or painting, on mantel, dresser or console. From my collection to yours.. Solid, heavy pieces, which is typical of French bisque from this era which was not hollowed out much. Basically these were made from large solid slabs of kaolin clay. Very heavy, they weigh about 13 lbs each and are a bit over 17 inches tall. I have been collecting Paris porcelain for over 30 years. Have a look at my other listings for a superb pair of Paris Porcelain busts after Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse.
Photos taken with daylight bulbs for accurate color. Though monitor colors may vary. These are items from my own collection.
I've taken great care to provide an accurate description and have provided many large clear photos. The high resolution photos are part of the description.
